Synopsis
The 60-minute documentary WHAT THE UNIVERSE TELLS ME - UNRAVELING THE MYSTERIES OF MAHLER’S THIRD SYMPHONY focuses on the intricate story surrounding the composition of German composer Gustav Mahler’s masterwork, ‘Third Symphony’. The piece is examined by professionals from the worlds of music and of ideas. Interspersed with the commentary is a thrilling performance of the symphony with an orchestra culled from players from the Manhattan School of Music. The work is offered complete on a second disc, recorded in New York’s Riverside Cathedral, with Glen Cortese conducting.. Narrated by Stockard Channing. Nearly an additional hour of mini-documentaries expand on the philosophical, biographical and musical issues explored in the film.
