Location and Cannulation of Central Veins Using Ultrasound

Synopsis
The use of ultrasound to demonstrate the anatomy of the site can greatly reduce many of the complications associated with central venous cannulation. In this video a portable device is used to locate, and show the filling and patency of, the internal jugular, subclavian, and femoral vessels in a conscious volunteer. Cannulation of the internal jugular vein using ultrasound is then demonstrated on a patient in Intensive Care.
