Location and Cannulation of Central Veins Using Ultrasound
- Synopsis
- The use of ultrasound to demonstrate the anatomy of the site can greatly reduce many of the complications associated with central venous cannulation. In this video a portable device is used to locate, and show the filling and patency of, the internal jugular, subclavian, and femoral vessels in a conscious volunteer. Cannulation of the internal jugular vein using ultrasound is then demonstrated on a patient in Intensive Care.
