Anaesthetic and Surgical Techniques for Carotid Endarterectomy
- Synopsis
- Approximately 5000 carotid endarterectomies are performed in the UK every year. This video demonstrates some of the techniques that have been shown to reduce morbidity and mortality in these high-risk patients. Two endarterectomies - using general and local anaesthesia - are shown, and surgical techniques - including the use of a carotid shunt, a Dacron patch, and an eversion endarterectomy - are clearly demonstrated.
