Anaesthetic and Surgical Techniques for Carotid Endarterectomy

Synopsis
Approximately 5000 carotid endarterectomies are performed in the UK every year. This video demonstrates some of the techniques that have been shown to reduce morbidity and mortality in these high-risk patients. Two endarterectomies - using general and local anaesthesia - are shown, and surgical techniques - including the use of a carotid shunt, a Dacron patch, and an eversion endarterectomy - are clearly demonstrated.
