Climate Change: Britain Under Threat
- Synopsis
- David Attenborough, Kate Humble and Matt Allwight investigate the way in which the British climate could be different at various points in the 21st century. The programme looks at some of the ways in which these changes could affect every single aspect of our lives; the way we heat and light our homes and buildings; the cars we drive; the crops we grow and even where we choose to holiday. It also looks at the potentially catastrophic effects our changing weather could have on our countryside, our cities and the natural world we all cherish.
The presenters meet a farmer who is changing the crops he produces in response to milder winters and warmer summers. They also meet a resident of the BedZed development of homes which run on renewable sources of energy. Nowhere are the effects of climate change felt more acutely than in the highlands of Scotland where the milder winters are already threatening the fragile ecology of the area.
Scientists now believe that it is too late for the world to reverse the effects of climate change before 2020 but it is not too late to act to prevent further change later in the century. Whether or not the nations of the world can recognise the importance of this issue and agree to work together to combat it remains to be seem. - Language

- NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
