Taming of the Screwball, The
- Synopsis
- Cartoon. Daffy Duck hosts a television show called ‘The Mysterious Phenomena of the Unexplained’. Daffy and Porky plot to pocket the investment money by doing a bad play (cf ‘The Producers’). They decide to cast the Tazmanian Devil (Taz) to perform Hamlet. He starts speaking ‘to be or not to be’ and gets pelted. Daffy says ‘Shakespeare must be turning in his grave’ and we then see Shakespeare in his grave, turning. Leaving his grave he goes to the theatre where he casts a spell on Taz which makes him speak well (as Juliet, speaking the’what’s in a name’ line.). Daffy then gets out his magic book and casts a spell on Taz who speaks lines from Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare then casts a spell on Daffy who, dressed as Juliet, says ‘good night sweet prince, parting is such sweet sorrow’. A newspaper headline reads ‘Hollywood Goes Silly for Willy’.
