What Makes Opera Grand?

Synopsis
US cultural magazine series hosted by Alistair Cooke. In this episode Leonard Bernstein contends that since music is received directly by the heart and does not need to be processed by the brain first, opera characters tend to be less complex and diverse. He illustrates his theory by comparing Shakespeare’s Iago as portrayed by Hans Conreid with that of Verdi’s Iago as sung by Frank Guarrera.
