Boy Who Plays on the Buddhas of Bamiyan, The
- Synopsis
- A portrait of everyday life in post-invasion Afghanistan, centered around an eight-year-old boy and his family who live in extreme poverty in caves among the ruins of the ‘Buddhas of Bamiyan’, one of the tallest stone statues of the world destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. The cameras follow the family for a year, through a hot summer and a bitterly cold winter. In spite of his bleak surroundings, the boy remains optimistic about his future even as US helicopters fly overhead and military vans drive by.
