Jeune Homme et la Mort, Le & Carmen
- Synopsis
- Filmed at the Palais Garnier in 2005, this features two ballets choreographed by Roland Petit as performed by the Ballet de l’Opera national de Paris: Le jeune homme et la mort and Carmen. Premiered in June 1946, The Young Man and Death, from a text by Jean Cocteau and set to music by Bach, marked the start of a whole new generation of choreography in liberated Paris, becoming the trademark of existentialist ballet. Carmen, set to Bizet’s celebrated score, was first staged in London in 1949 and it cemented the global fame of the French choreographer, then just 25 years old. The performers include Marie Agnes Gillot, Clairemarie Osta and Nicolas les Riches.
