House of Strangers

Synopsis
Feature film, based on the novel I’ll Never Go Home Any More by Jerome Weidman. A tyrannical Italian-American banker (Robinson) finds that his three sons turn against him when he is prosecuted by the state for illegal financial practices. He is defended in court by a fourth son (Conte), a maverick lawyer who tries to bribe a jury member and is betrayed to the police by one of his brothers. Coming out of prison, with the father dead, he swears revenge, but changes his mind and merely turns his back on them. Frequently cited and discussed as an adaptation of King Lear, the borrowing is perhaps more apparent in the western remake BROKEN LANCE.
