Synopsis

Accident prevention in the construction industry comes from good management, which is assured by the correct application of the CDM Regulations. This video package applies to a wide range of construction and engineering activities, including: building projects and demolition; certain types of cleaning and maintenance work within fixed structures; installation of services. It will benefit organisations involved with construction projects, especially when issuing tenders for work, by understanding how to comply with health and safety regulations.

The video explains the requirements of the CDM Regulations, outlining roles and legal duties of: clients or their agents; designers; the planning supervisor; principal contractor and sub-contractors. It emphasises the key requirement for organisations and individuals to be competent and adequately resourced for the project in hand. It also shows the importance of the Health & Safety Plan and Health & Safety File and shows who is responsible for producing these documents.

The accompanying A4 manual (User’s Tool Kit) provides guidance notes, including five Health & Safety Commission publications and essential templates of forms to enable managers and specialists to discharge duties they may have when engaging in a project covered by the Regulations. The templates are also supplied on floppy diskto enable companies to produce forms on their own headed paper.
