Synopsis
Looks at the use of swimming as a therapeutic medium with short-stay psychiatric patients: the occupational therapy department organises a weekly outing at by train to the local swimming pool. The aims are to develop responsibility and initiative, to increase confidence in travelling, to improve mobility and facilitate relaxation, to increase confidence and self-esteem, to encourage socialisation adn to maintain links with the community. Two staff are interviewed and provide clear commentary in which the details and pitfalls of the outing are discusses.
