Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony

Synopsis
Lee Hirsch’s film AMANDIA! took nine years to make and tells the story of black South African freedom music, revealing the central role it played in the long battle against apartheid and how song was used as an efective underground form of communication. The film combines original footage, performances by celebrated South African musicians and non-professionals, archival footage and re-enactments to celebrate the resilience of the human spirit throughout the long struggle for freedom in South Africa. The film also features interviews with a range of individuals who share their experiences of struggle and song.
