Beyond the Frame: Alternative Perspectives on the War on Terrorism
- Synopsis
- Since the 11 September attacks, and throughout the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, the mainstream media in the US have presented a restricted range of views, largely confined to the opinions of political elites and a commercial frame dependent on advertisers and ratings. In response to this the Media Education Foundation produced this series of interviews with leading scholars, and political and social experts and activists presenting alternative views on these recent events and the threats posed to civil liberties in the wake of the Patriot Act. Thematic sections cover: defining terror; historical contexts; media coverage; gender & violence; organised resistance & the peace movement; the Iraq war and militarism; democracy threatened. Amongst those invterviewed are Noam Chomsky, Janine Jackson, Cynthia Enloe, Manning Marable, and Mark Crispin Miller.
