Genius in Every Child, The

Synopsis
Based on his book ‘Awakening genius in the classroom’ Dr Thomas Armstrong explores the history associated with genius and debunks the narrow but widely held belief that genius is solely a function of performing well above average in tasks that require reading, arithmetic and other academic skills. Dr. Armstrong believes that there is genius in every child and it is our responsibility to discover and awaken it. He then identifies those negative influences in our environments that prevent the genius from revealing itself in children, and discusses those factors that awaken and nurture this genius, that enhance its growth and development.
The video shows how Armstrong’s beliefs are put into practice in schools in learning environments based on the Montessori approach. Virginia McHugh, Executive Director of Montessori USA, contributes her ideas and helps to profile schools that take a creative and unconventional approach to developing each student’s gifts and raising student achievement and performance. The video is available in two versions: the elementary version covers school-age children; the early childhood version covers the pre-school years
