Future of Progress, The

Synopsis
The central theme of this video is that environmental degradation and social disintegration are not caused by poverty, but by affluence. Currently, 80% of the world’s resources are being consumed by 20% of the world’s people, mainly in the industrialised northern hemisphere. Our political, economic and even cultural systems in the West are geared to continuing this process of ‘development’. Four leading thinkers/activists - Vandana Shiva, Martin Khor, Edward Goldsmith and Helena Norberg-Hodge - describe the devastating effects of development on the environment with chilling clarity and propose solutions to our global crisis.
