Guide to the Interpretation of the Mass Spectra of Organic Compounds, A

Synopsis
In three parts. Part 1: how to process the mass spectrum and recognise significant features of the spectrum which aid interpretation, such as metastable ion peak, the molecular ion peak and isotope peaks. Part 2: elementary fragmentation mechanisms of many common classes of organic compounds (eg. aldehydes, ketones, aromatic systems and aliphatic systems) are discussed. Part 3: a systematic way of tackling mass spectrometry problems is presented. There are problems for the student to solve throughout.
