Guardians of the Flute

Synopsis
Looks at a coming-of-age rite among the Sambia, who live in an isolated valley in the highlands of New Guinea. In order to inherit the courage and virity of their elders, boys as young as seven must swallow the essence of manhood - the semen of the older warriors. The young warriors live in an exclusively male world in which heterosexual intercourse is forbidden until they marry.
