- Synopsis
- Series exposing the influence of the Gladio, a terrorist network operating throughout Europe. Originally set up to combat Communism, these groups changed from being defenders of state security into the enemies of established political order. In 3 parts: 1) The Ringmasters: the creation of the clandestine organisation and its influence in the intenal affairs of almost every European country. Reveals how the CIA manipulated the political affairs of post-war Europe through the Gladio; 2) The Puppeteers: a series of inexplicable bombings, including Bologna, revealed the existence in Italy of an ‘invisible government’; 3) The Foot Soldiers: a type of terrorism that developed in the 1980s which used the media to influence public opion and destabliise democratic society. Examines the kidnapping and assassination of Italian prime minister Aldo Moro.
