Synopsis

Paul Atkinson discusses the sociology of medical education and whether current practice is premised on ‘certainty’ or ‘uncertainty’. Milton Weinstein and Arthur Elstein consider how to build reasoning into the curriculum. The discourse between the judgment analyst (Jack Dowie) and the doctor (Beverly Hunt) ends with a discussion of the practicalities of exercising judgment in everyday practice.
