Gauss-Bonnet Theorem, The
- Synopsis
- Introduces some of the basic concepts of differential geometry and topology. Defines the notions of Gaussian curvature for curves and surfaces and then introduces the principal curvatures on a surface and relates them to the Gaussian curvature. After illustrating the integral of the Gaussian curvature over a curve, poses the question of integrating it over the surface. The genus of a surface and the Euler characteristic are discussed and the film ends with an invitation to study and explore the subject.
