Gauss-Bonnet Theorem, The

Synopsis
Introduces some of the basic concepts of differential geometry and topology. Defines the notions of Gaussian curvature for curves and surfaces and then introduces the principal curvatures on a surface and relates them to the Gaussian curvature. After illustrating the integral of the Gaussian curvature over a curve, poses the question of integrating it over the surface. The genus of a surface and the Euler characteristic are discussed and the film ends with an invitation to study and explore the subject.
