Foraging Behaviour of Barnacle Geese
- Alternative title
- Vigilance Behaviour in Barnacle Geese
- Synopsis
- A study of the foraging behaviour of barnacle geese. Involves the study of 21 flocks of barnacle geese, ranging in size up to 30 birds, feeding on grassland near Loch Gruinard, Scotland. Students collect data on the frequency and duration of vigilance, based on classic feeding and vigilance postures, in relation to flock size. A Pearson correlation can be carried out on the results. The exercise focuses on how vigilance changes as a function of flock size.
