Anatomy of an Opera: Jonathan Miller

Synopsis: In 1978 Jonathan Miller produced the Mozart opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ for the English National Opera Company at the Coliseum in London. The film records Miller at work and in interview he discusses his approach to directing and to this production. The second act finale is shown at length in rehearsal and dress rehearsal. The cast includes John Tomlinson as Figaro, Lillian Watson as Suzanna and Eric Shilling as Antonio. The musical director is Sir Charles Groves and the set designer Patrick Robertson.
