Family Therapy in Context

Synopsis
Video component of a two-and-a-half-day training programme aimed at social workers who are beginning work in family therapy. Addresses such questions as ‘How do you get all the family to come to the meeting?' and ‘How can you use family therapy in a statutory setting?'. The taped role-plays focus on initial contacts between agency staff and family members, particularly referral, engagement, convening and contract making. Six excerpts illustrate these stages within settings such as child and family guidance clinics, a hospital, a social services department and a probation office.
