Facts of Ndt

Synopsis
Covers the main techniques used for the non-destructive testing (NDT) of welded joints - penetrants, magnetic particle, radiography and ultrasonics. Shows the operating principles of each and the measurement of defects’ size by ultrasonics. Three industrial applications highlight the importance of NDT in quality assurance: magnetic particle testing of a winding drum in service at a colliery, radiography of a gas transmission pipeline, and ultrasonic testing of steam piping in an electricity generating station. Summarises the facts of NDT as an aid to retention of the information presented.
