Facilitating Creative Action / Imagery and Metaphor
- Synopsis
- Two support videos for course B822.
1: Follows two experience professional facilitators as they lead a weekend workshop in creative problem solving. In two parts: 1) follows the facilitated sessions and illustrates various problem-solving techniques used in the session; 2) shows the group tackling problem for themselves, without the professional facilitators. Shows techniques including the knot game, mind-mapping and the jellybean game.
2 (producer Claire Sandry): Two demonstrations of metaphor being used as a communication tool in a management context. In two parts: 1) based in a high-tech knowledge-based company, shows the use of metaphor as a communication tool both internally and between staff and customer. The use of metaphor is mediated through ‘clean language’; 2) focuses on imagery manipulation, in which the problem is resolved entirely at the level of metaphor without recourse to the actual problem. The helper never knows the true problem, the problem-owner may not understand the solution until long after the session, and its validity is based on an intuitive sense of rightness. - Series

- NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
