Face of Tutankhamun, The

Synopsis
Series following upon archaeologist Howard Carter’s discovery of the tomb of the boy king Tutankhamun in Egypt in 1922. The series draws on Carters unpublished papers and includes recently discovered film of the excavation. Written and presented by Christopher Frayling.

2 (producer Derek Towers): The treasure from the tomb created a bitter conflict between Carter and the Egyptian authorities. With the sudden and mysterious death of his sponsor, Lord Carnarvon, Carter had to deal with an increasingly tense political situation. It was to take ten years for Carter and his team to clear the funerary objects from the tomb and to reveal the mortal remains of the king.

The temples along the Nile valley are being eroded by pollution, as is the Cairo museum that houses the world’s greatest collections of Egyptian antiquities.
