Experiments in Cardiovascular Physiology (5 Parts)

Synopsis
1 (1981): Demonstrates the location and characteristics of the major pulses viz the apex beat, the jugular venous pulse, the carotid artery pulse and the femoral pulse. Also shows hwo to take blood pressure with a standard sphygmomanometer using both tactile and auscultatory methods. The latter is demonstrated with the aid of an electronic stethoscope which enables the sound of the blood flow to be recorded.
2 (1981): Demonstrates how to measure of volume of blood in the forearm using a plethysmograph. Also demonstrates increase of blood flow as a result of exercise.
3 (1981): Shows where best to hear the various heart sounds. Demonstrates heart sounds using an electronic stethoscope. Shows the application of limb and chest leads for an ECG and the nature of the results.
4 (1981): The experiment is performed first on an isolated perfused rabbit heart and then on an isolated atrial strip. In both experiments the apparatus is first described and the effects of the alteration of various physical parameters, and of the administration of several drugs, is then demonstrated.
5 (1982): Examines the circulation of the frog web under a microscope, noting the difference between the arterial and venous flow. Also shows vasoconstriction as a result of the administration of adrenalin.
