Eruption of Mount St Helens, The

Synopsis
In March 1980 the Mount St Helens volcano in Washington state became active after over a century of quiet. For two months it displayed a variety of geological phenomena that captivated the public and scientists of the Pacific Northwest. Then, in an extraordinary demonstration of power, it transfixed the entire world with its massive convulsion. This programme, made with the aid of a local team of geologists familiar with the mountain and the region, offers a sample of the photographic record of the eruptions to accompany a full account of the geology of Mt St Helens before, during and after the cayaclysm.
