English Garden, The. Part 4: The Lake in the Landscape (1775-1785)

Synopsis
Under the reign of George III there was a revival of interest in English gothic with mock castles and ruins becoming the central feature for many landscape gardens. Buildings such as follies and treehouses were also used to ornament gardens. The protection of plants, fruit and vegetables was a major concern and led to the development of the orangery and walled garden. Looks at the work of Capability Brown showing Petworth and Blenheim as examples of his work.
