Engineers for the 90s

Synopsis
Demonstrates how Brighton Polytechnic implemented a Design and Manufacture Programme (DAMP) as part of an initiative to create a more practical training for engineers following the recommendations of the 1980 Finniston Report. Follows the making of a carburettor by first-year students. The main thrust, however, is about how the teaching staff at the Polytechnic and the local college of technology coped with the implementation of the programme and how they dealt with the inevitable teething problems of a new course.
