End of the Road

Synopsis
The 10,000 Embera Indians live in the headwaters of two rivers, the Baudo and the Atrato, in the Choco region of the coast of Colombia, South America. Whether fishing, hunting or growing food, the lives of the Embera revolve around the river. Some aspects of Embera traditional life are shown, but the main concern of the film is to show the relations between the Embera and outsiders, notably the local Catholic missionaries (who act as civil as well as religious administrators) and a local community of negro Libres, descendants of freed slaves. The negroes exploit the Embera, who wish to protect their land, but do not have the resources to do so.
