Drop Forging

Synopsis

First shows a blacksmith forging a hammerhead using traditional methods. Increasing in scale of manufacture, a ring is made from a billet of steel, with industrial tools used to punch a hole. Also demonstrates fire welding in making an iron bolt. Finally, shows 150 tonnes of cast iron being forged into a cylinder, using the same techniques as the blacksmith’s but on a much larger scale.
