DoÑana: The Last Resort

Synopsis
Looks at how the demands of the local economy have brought bitter conflict to the Doñana wetlands in southern Spain, the preservation of which has been a source of bitter conflict between conservationists and people wanting jobs. The highest unemployment in western Europe and the region’s notorious poverty have inspired ambitious plans for tourism and agriculture. But ecologists claim that unless development is halted thousands of rare species will be threatened, if not lost.
