Dna in Practice: An Introduction

Synopsis
Shows how DNA is extracted and purified before being analysed using electrophoresis. Southern blotting and probing of the DNA using a radioactively labelled probe. These techniques form the basis of DNA fingerprinting, production of proteins of commercial or pharmaceutical interest using genetic engineering, improvement of crops through genetic manipulation, analysis of inherited diseases and prenatal diagnosis, and important research into the mechanisms of growth and development.
