Digging for History

Synopsis
One summer of rescue archaeology in York: the excavation work on five Roman and medieval sites during the digging season of 1973. The locations are the Cattle Market, the Ebor Brewery, the Bedern, Skeldergate and Bishopshill. Emphasises how history and archaeology work together and, in some cases, how archaeological finds can mean that previously held historical ideas have to be modified.
