- Synopsis
- Systematic examination of old age is a new field inspirecd by the unprecendented number of people living long enough to become elderly. Rigorous research on the part of the Berlin Group under Paul Baltes has produced an large body of knowledge about the psychological effects of ageing. The video presents much of what is now known about the effects of ageing on cognition. Segments of the assessments used by the Berlin Group allow students to better understand the scope of the research. The video introduces the ‘Selection, Optimization and Compensation’ model of life-span adaptation developed by Paul and Margret Baltes and their colleagues, using graphics and vignettes of elderly people leading fulfilling lives.
