Cost of Cotton, The

Synopsis
Documents excessive and uncontrolled use of pesticides in Guatemala. The country’s cotton production depends on aerial spraying of pesticides every two or three days during the harvest. The consequences include the world’s highest levels of DDT in mothers’ milk, health problems associated with toxicity among agricultural workers, depletion of fish resources, the resurgence of malaria and high levels of pesticides in beef and dairy products.
