- Profiles British painter John Constable and describes how painters such as Thomas Gainsborough, Claude Lorrain and Peter Paul Rubens influenced his depiction of landscapes. Traces the development of Constable’s oil sketching technique, the introduction of colour and motion into his painting and the economy of his brushstroke. Produces in conjunction with a Constable exhibition at the Tate Gallery, London, in 1991.
