Chopper, The

Synopsis
Traces the evolution of the helicopter over a period of nearly 50 years, using rare archive footage of early pioneering flights. Shows the first practical helicoptor, the German Focke Achgelis 61, first used in 1963, its test flights and comments frof its woman pilot Hanna Reitsch. Traces USA development in companies including Sikorsky, Bell and Hughes. Recent developments include the use of jet propulsion, the introduction of small wings to aid live and increase speed, and rotors that tilt forward to the vertical to become normal propellers in flight.
