Chemistry of Creativity, The
- Synopsis
- Looks at the relationship between chemistry and aesthetics. First questions society’s perception of the chemist and chemistry as realms which exclude art. An installation artist and Nobel Prize-winning chemist Roald Hoffman are interviewed. A photographer illustrates how different chemical solutions transform photographs; a chemist lectures on the significance of molecules and chemical reactions in smells and colour; artist Peter Blake talks about how the use of the colour blue in paintings has changed through history because of chemical innovation. Looks at changing perceptions of chemistry - from a science aiding the advance of society to relative obscurity. Questions of the validity of common perceptions of what is ‘natural’ and ‘unnatural’, explaining that natural substances are intertwined with synthetic processes in all aspects of creation.

They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
