Cheap Energy for Tomorrow Today

Synopsis
Discusses the potential of biomass as a renewable energy source. Describes the importance of fuel-efficient wood stoves in Kenya to complement the development of agro-forestry as a sustainable source of energy for rural households. In India and Kenya looks at successful experiences in using animal waste to produce biogas for cooking and lighting from both technical and economic perspectives. Describes village-based experiences in lesser-known biomass technologies such as wood gas plants and the production of biogas from foliage in a leaf biogas digestion. Shows the large-scale use of sugar cane for the production of alcohol, which is used in nearly all of Brazil’s 4.5m motor vehicles.
