- An interactive tutorial on the basic pharmacology of synaptic transmission involving dopamine in the central nervous system (CNS). Examines 1) the physiological role and clinical significance of dopamine in the CNS; 2) dopamine transmission: synthesis, storage, release, pre- and post-synaptic receptors, uptake and inactivation; 3) central dopaminergic pathways in the rat brain; 4) dopamine receptors: D1 and D2 receptors, their sub-types and transduction mechanisms; 5) dopaminergic drugs: action and clinical importance. Approximately 3-4 hours of teaching material.
