- Synopsis
- An interactive tutorial on the pharmacology of synaptic transmission involving 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in the central nervous system (CNS). Examines 1) the physiological role of 5-HT in the CNS and its clinical significance; 2) 5-HT transmission: synthesis, release, pre- and post-synaptic receptors, uptake and inactivation; 3) 5-HT pathways: main sites of 5-HT pathways in the rat brain; 4) 5-HT receptors: the families 5-HT1 to 5-HT7, their sub-types and transduction mechanisms; 5) 5-HT drugs: their actions and clinical importance.
