Slime mould. Formation of diploid amoeba following fusion of haploid amoebae (fusion of nuclei in the prophase); formation of diploid plasmodia after fusion of haploid amoebae (fusion of nuclei in the interphase); direct transformation of haploid amoebae into haploid plasmodia. The processes of cell fusion, fusion of nuclei and the prevention of cell division are regulated by two specific genes. With animated sequences.
