Synopsis
Conventional warfare has been changed by the development of Precision Guided Weapons - PGWs. Because they use some part of the electro-magnetic spectrum they are vulnerable to electronic counter-measures. Provides a review of principal counter-measures, including noise and chaff jamming, infra-red flares and anti-radiation missiles. These measures are unlikely to be effective without electronic intelligence (Elint). Explains the purposes of Elint. Finally discusses PGWs with reference to NATO’s defensive posture in the face of the Warsaw Pact’s numerical superiority in conventional weapons.
