Acid Rain: Requiem or Recovery

Synopsis
Origins of acid rain from combustion of fossil fuels. Emissions of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides result in the formation of sulphuric acid and nitric acid in rain and snow. Consequent effects on animals, plants, soils, food-chains, lakes, rivers and buildings. Concentrates on North America but the conclusions are widely applicable. Discusses the monitoring of pH levels and experimental acidification of lakes to study effects. Gives some indication of measures to combat acid rain but does not discuss costs.
