Synopsis
Looks closely at the early Gainsborough works of the 1740s and 1750s, providing an insight into the young artist’s development and working methods. Traces his early influences, including the Dutch masters Jacob van Ruisdael and Jan Wijnants, and how he learned to blend his love of landscapes with a lucrative portrature career. Filmed from original works and on location in East Anglia.
