Subtitle
Ken Hawley: a collector’s tale
Synopsis
Describes the work of Ken Hawley in archiving the materials and documenting the lives and work of the people connected with the Sheffield edge tool and cutlery industries since the beginning of the 20th century. Interviews with Hawley and others are combined with new and archive footage to present the human stories behind the archive. Shows some of the collection - which contains more than 70,000 individual artefacts, with 2000 joiner’s planes, 1000 table knives, 260 micrometers, 50 anvils, 4000 catalogues and thousands of associated documents - and presents examples of how the collection has already proved its value for academic researchers.
