Working Hands: Tibetan Women Weavers in Nepal

Subtitle
Tibetan women weavers in Nepal
Synopsis
Follows a working day among the Tibetan women carpet weavers in Jawalakhel, on the edge of the Kathmandu valley in Nepal, discussing such subjects as relationships between gender and labour, children and mobility, education and health. These women are among the 100,000 Tibetan refugees who have fled from Tibet since 1950, when the Chinese annexed their country. Although the men start carpet businesses, almost all the weavers are unschooled women. As well as working in the factories, many women have to work additionally at home in order to make ends meet.
