- Synopsis
- Deals with the character of Soviet-Finnish relations after the Second World War in comparison with other European neighbours of the Soviet Union, and examines the Winter War of 1939-40. First part considers Finland and the Soviet Union from the Finnish Civil War to 1939, the relationship being viewed, in the context of the general development of international relations. The second part concentrates on the Winter War, showing the significance of topography, climate and tactics and the War’s international implications. Considers the War’s importance for the newly emerging Soviet-Finnish relationship after 1944 in the context of Soviet domination of Eastern Europe. Archive film material from Finland, Britain, the Soviet Union and America is used.
